How to Include Your Dog in Your Wedding

Our own special day wouldn’t have been complete without our four-legged family member by our side. From first looks to forever memories, having our pup there made every moment even more meaningful.
Our own special day wouldn’t have been complete without our four-legged family member by our side. From first looks to forever memories, having our pup there made every moment even more meaningful.

Because your best day isn’t complete without your best friend.

If your pup is part of your family, there’s a good chance you’re dreaming of ways to include them in your big day. At Barking Down the Aisle, we believe dogs belong at weddings—not left behind. But including your furry friend takes more than a cute outfit and a leash. It requires planning, preparation, and a little professional help. Here’s how to make it happen, stress-free.

1. Decide What Role They’ll Play

Not all dogs are aisle-ready, and that’s okay! Think about your pup’s personality and comfort level in busy settings. Some sweet ideas:

  • Ring Bearer (secured safely!)

  • Flower Pup with a floral collar

  • VIP Guest who shows up for photos, then heads home

  • Honourary Party Member at the getting-ready suite or post-ceremony

2. Choose a Dog-Friendly Venue

Not every venue allows dogs, so double-check before you book. Ask if there are any rules around indoor/outdoor access, leash policies, or cleaning fees. And if your venue isn’t pet-friendly, we can still help you stage the perfect pup-inclusive photo session off-site.

3. Designate a Dedicated Dog Attendant

Here’s the big one. Don’t rely on family or friends to juggle dog duty and wedding fun. You’ll need someone fully focused on your dog’s care, comfort, and schedule—especially during high-stress moments. That’s exactly what we do at Barking Down the Aisle.

Our team provides:

  • On-the-day transport, care, and coordination

  • Walks, potty breaks, feeding, and downtime

  • Photo assistance and ceremony prep

  • Extended care before or after the event

4. Prepare Your Pup

Make sure your dog is set up for success:

  • Practice leash walking in busier environments

  • Schedule a grooming session before the big day

  • Pack a wedding-day bag: treats, water, waste bags, a towel, toys, and anything else they love

  • Choose a comfortable harness or collar (bonus if it’s cute!)

5. Don’t Forget the Photos

Some of the best wedding memories are made when your pup shows up for portraits. From slobbery kisses to tail-wagging entrances, your photographer will love having them there—and so will you.

Pro tip: Let us coordinate with your photographer and planner so everything runs smoothly.
